By the first week in April this year, every ward on Hillingdon Borough will have a Safer Neighbourhood team. The fourteen additional teams across the borough will be in the following wards: Charville, Barnhill, Pinkwell, Heathrow Villages, Harefield, Northwood, Northwood Hills, West Ruislip, Eastcote and East Ruislip, Ickenham, Ruslip Manor, Hillingdon East and Brunel

Residents in these areas will be hearing more about their team's arrival in the coming months and how to contact them to discuss issues of concern.

TEAMWORK
Whilst not normally taking the lead to solve major crimes, the team will play an important role in providing reassurance to affected residents and gathering important information for an investigation. Co-operative working is the key to success and draws upon the need to use the wider policing family, such as Special Constables, Volunteer Police Cadets, Neighbourhood Watch volunteers and other partnership staff.

PCSOs
PCSOs also have a major role to play in providing public reassurance and are an essential part of the team. They are often recruited locally which means they come with personal experience and knowledge of what is affecting the residents in Hillingdon. They can also seem more approachable to the general public than a police officer.
Chief Inspector Maurice Hartnett of the Community and Partnership Unit outlines how the Policing of Hillingdon Borough is about to change.

"We are sure that you will notice a real difference in policing in the borough over the next year, and are confident that with Safer Neighbourhood Teams and communities working together, Hillingdon will become a better and safer place to live, work and visit."
"Safer Neighbourhoods is the most important policing evolution of the 21st Century"
